Electrical transformer pad
Three-phase electricity was extended from the south approximately 5,000 feet. This project should be finished in early June. We have requested 480 V service.

The transformer pad is located between the milking center and the road. It is 10’x10’ in size
The transformer pad has four grounding rods with copper wire connection to minimize the possibility of stray voltage.

Wells
We drilled two wells within six feet of the milking center. We chose to have two wells so that there is redundancy in the water system. Each well is 30 feet deep and has capacities in excess of 60 gallons per minute.

The wells are placed close to the milking center to minimize pumping as well as installation costs.
Barber & DeLine Well Drilling did the drilling..
Soil structure alls for digging at a rate of one foot per minute.

Don Richards (L), Russ Warren (C), and Mike Sinniger (R) study the well drilling. Don is the General Manager of the Homer FingerLakes Construction Company. Russ is the site manager for this construction process.

Digging the wells is easy as the material is all gravel at the site.

Service will be brought to the transformer pad underground at the primary voltage level. The natural gas line will also be laid in this same ditch.
The transformer has been installed. The service is 800 amps at 480 volts

The micro-turbines are delivered. The microturbines are in experimental for biogas utilization. It is expected that they will require less maintenance than other biogas co-gen systems and produce much less noise. We have installed four that are capable of generating most of the farm’s electrical needs.
Finishing touches are added to the front of the parlor. Aesthetics are as important as all other aspects of the complex.
One of many bio-security signs. Now that the animals are in place, bio-security protocols are being followed.

The parlor is beginning to take on a finished look. All that is left is some landscaping.

December 2001

An aerial view of the DDI complex as it appears in early December, 2001
The parlor complex takes on the spirit of the season.
Fencing is being added to discourage vehicular traffic and to help stop any errant cows should a gate be left open.
