BFGL Mission:To improve the genetic and productive efficiency and health andwell-being of cattle through fundamental research on gene expression,and marker-assisted genetic selection. Research in the laboratory usesmethods of immunology, molecular biology and bioinformatics to: enhancegenetic selection by the identification of quantitative trait loci,identify genes that are important for enhanced productivity and diseaseresistance, and develop fundamental knowledge about the physiology anddevelopment of the mammary gland, the bovine immune system andgastrointestinal tract. Implicit in these endeavors is the developmentof molecular, biological and bioinformatic tools to facilitatefunctional genomic studies, and the development of management andbreeding tools that enhance producer efficiency and profitability.
