Here is an overview of celebrations that will be organised in different countries. This information is from the FAO Dairy Outlook mailing list
Argentina:
We inform that the UGT (Unión General de Tamberos de la República Argentina) an entity founded in 1920 that reunites the dairy-farmers all across Argentinian land has decided to support the World Milk Day.
We’re planning some activities explaining the advantages of milk consumption and press campaigns. We hope to improve on these activities every year.
The word TAMBO comes from Inca language and in Argentina it’s a synonym for dairy farming, so the owners are known as "TAMBEROS".
Guillermo Draletti, UNION GENERAL DE TAMBEROS, www.tamberos.org.ar
Austria:
On the world Milk Day in Austria a lot of events are organized. In Lower Austria in the project "The Country where milk and honey is running" 20 milk farmers and beekeepers open their farms and invite the consumers. In Salzburg there is a night of milk organized. The ministry of agriculture gives a press conference. The school milk farmers gives a football to every school and invite the pupils to their farms. Chile
This year we have decided to emphasize solidarity in our celebrations of World Milk Day.
On the one hand, the company that leads promotion of milk consumption in our country, Promolac (a partnership between the major dairy industries and Fedeleche, the organization of milk producers), has decided to make an important donation of milk to people of a small village in the south of Chile (Chaitén) which were entirely evacuated after the eruption of a volcano.
Inhabitants were transferred without being able to bring any of their personal belongings and today they face a very difficult situation. They don’t know if they will ever be able to return to their homes because the volcano erupts continuosly, and it rains so much in the area that the rivers keep flooding the village with water and mud .
On the other hand, the Association of Milk Producers of the important producing area “Region of the Rivers” (APROVAL-Valdiva) together with the local milk producers is also organizing a donation of milk to a charity institution of Valdivia. We would have preferred to have more festive activities to commemorate WMD but we thought it was important to emphasize the social role that the dairy sector has and to support , with these small efforts, fellow-citizens who are currently facing a difficult situation .
Warm greetings from Chile (the end of the world) to all participants of this year’s World Milk Day celebrations! José Luis Delgado Morales
Central America:

Germany:

In eleven Federal states the motto is now: "Faster, stronger, smarter. Milk makes it!." How do the strawberries get into the yogurt? Why is curd in the cheese cake? As there is so much that is worth knowing about milk, the white power drink celebrates World Milk Day this year as well.
The motto on June 1st in Germany is: "Faster, stronger, smarter. Milk makes it." The CMA (the central marketing association of the German Agribusiness) together with the GML (the union of federal dairy associations) will inform visitors about the properties of milk, the food made out of it and its importance in the context of a balanced diet.
According to the motto „faster, stronger, smarter“, milk, as part of a balanced diet, helps to recover your strength. The energy for speedy feet comes from the lactose which supplies muscles continuously with energy. Calcium helps to strengthen bones and teeth; protein is good for your muscles. All three can be found in milk, exactly like amino acids, which play an important role in your mental fitness.
Becoming an expert with Emma and the “Milk Quartet” Big and small visitors of the World Milk Day festivities can demonstrate how fit they are in various activities. One of the highlights in many German cities will be Emma – the cow made of wire which sensitively reacts. With a metal stick, visitors can test their skills keeping a steady hand and trying not to touch the wire cow. Each time there is contact, Emma reacts with a light siren and a loud “mooohhh”.
There will also be the “Milk Quartet” informing in a playful manner about the importance of milk and milk products which will be offered to all visitors of the event. As a highlight at the end of an informative Day around milk, children will receive a certificate, appointing them officially “milk experts”. Michael Brandl from the Association of the German Dairy Industry

Malawi:
After 8 years 1st June has become firmly established as the national day of celebration for dairy farmers in Malawi. As usual there is much excitement in the build up to the day with preparations starting weeks before – which include 6 km of specially designed cloth being distributed for dancing dresses to be made!. The dances performed by women from the milk bulking groups are one of the day’s highlights, with ever more spectacular displays being invented to woo the crowds. A few of us who are less creatively inclined go for the odd jog in anticipation of doing the milk run. The day also provides a good opportunity to recognize the region’s top farmers with awards for their achievements, and to mark other significant events like the opening of a new milk bulking group at Mombezi, the site of this year’s event.
Our best wishes go out to farmers round the world – many of whom we hope can also look back on one of the best years in memory for milk producers. Brian Lewis, Shire Highlands Milk Producers Association
Norway:
We are currently running a campaign (net campaign) where we encourage people to send in their good “milk stories” (different ways of using milk, old woman’s remedies, etc.). The best milk story wins a milk bucket full of money. We are planning to make a press kit in connection with World Milk Day, where we list up the best milk stories that have been sent in (maybe divided into regions – for local media). In addition the press kit will include facts about milk, consumer figures, international happenings etc. Kjersti Selseth, The Norwegian Dairy Council

UK:
We are promoting World Milk Day in the UK with a PR campaign that we hope will gain media exposure and raise awareness for this annual event as well as for the health and nutritional benefits of milk. Our campaign consists of the following activities:
1.We’ve engaged Catherine Collins head of dietetics at St Georges Hospital to talk about the nutritional benefits of milk and 3-A-Day in several radio interviews which will take place between 9am and 5pm this Friday.
2. We are working with a PR agency on the following activities:
- In order to remind people of where milk comes from, a milking simulator, is being taken onto the streets of London for the public to try their hand at milking it. The images will be released along with a written piece on the benefits of milk to the press in the hopes of achieving coverage in the nationals and regionals.
- Commissioned a small yougov survey to find out the UK’s favourite way to enjoy a glass of milk i.e. the time of day people enjoy milk most and what they like to have it with best and we’ve had a “magic milk moment” graphic developed to illustrate the results which will also be used to get some positive coverage.
- Promote the worldwide activities of World Milk Day to the media in order to put the event into a more global context.
- Promote a piece of literature from our archive that shows the quirky way that milk and dairy products were promoted in the 1930’s.
